The seasons are changing and it is time to start shedding those layers.Time to manicure those nails, put on some flip flops and start working on that summer tan.

We want to look our best, so it is important that there are no warts visible. Although warts are unappealing to look at, they are harmless.

Warts are caused by the Human   Papilloma Virus (HPV) which lies dormant on contact surfaces. When broken skin comes into contact with these surfaces the virus is transferred and forms a wart.

There are 2 main types of warts; common and plantar (verruca) warts. Plantar warts are found on the bottom of your feet, where the skin is exposed to excessive pressure or friction. They grow deep into the epidermis of your skin and can be quite uncomfortable to walk on. Swimming pools and gym showers are common ‘breeding grounds’ for these types of warts. This virus is transferred onto wet surfaces and lies dormant until picked up by someone walking in this area without protection. Although plantar warts are more common in children there is a high incidence in adults who share common bathing or  swimming areas. Always wear protective shoes or flip flops when walking  around these areas.

Common warts are found on hands, feet, knees, and many other areas of the body. They are highly contagious and can be transferred from one body part to another quite easily. Women often exacerbate the spread when shaving. Shaving cuts open the wart and spreads the virus to areas with broken skin. Common warts are often transferred to the tips of your fingers or around your knuckles as these areas often come into contact with existing warts. Warts are extremely contagious so be careful not to touch them. In cases of children consider covering them to ensure that they do not pick the wart.

Luckily most warts are easy to get rid of and you can remove them at home. Wartner uses cryotherapy, the doctor recommended treatment for wart removal, but in the comfort of your own home. Wartner freezes the wart and causes it to fall off in 2 weeks or 1 to 3 treatments. It is easy to use and avoids daily treatment. Wartner is available at Dischem, select Clicks and all leading pharmacies.
